Local bride-to-be Rachel Kerr shares her proposal story.
“Back in November 2011 Jamie, my now fiance and I had been together almost two years, and living together for three months. Jamie works for North Down Borough Council and one day he got a staff email from the tourism department saying that one of the National Lottery game shows were holding auditions the following Sunday and were short on numbers. So Jamie went along and got through to appear on “Who Dares Wins” presented by Nick Knowles. Jamie was partnered up with a lovely man called Bob Ryall, and together over three shows they won £50,000, £25,000 each!
Fast-forward to January and Jamie’s winning cheque came in the post, along with plans to take me out for a slap-up meal. Only the slap-meal didn’t happen. I got home from work on Thursday 26th January for Jamie to tell me to pack my bags that we were heading off to New York the next morning and not to worry as he’d booked time off work with my boss.
On Saturday 28th of January, after a lovely day of sight-seeing Jamie proposed in Central Park, and to top it off a lovely man named Carlos and his wife approached us saying they noticed Jamie get down on one knee and immediately started taking photos, which we now have framed and hung up in our living room.
Jamie couldn’t have done it any better! Before heading to New York he visited my parents in secret to ask for my hand. He also got one of our dear friends Jennifer Robinson (of Robinson Goldsmiths, Bangor) to hand make my ring.”
